WAGES AND WORK PROCESSES
DEFINITIONS:
Acquainted: - Emphasizes the apprentice being introduced to knowledge or processes not known before.
Familiar: - Emphasizes possession by the apprentice of limited knowledge and skills or other requirements to do a certain kind of work under close supervision.
Competent: - Emphasizes possession by the apprentice of sufficient skills or other requirements to do a certain kind of work satisfactorily.
Apprentice A - $16.20 per hour - 0 to 500 Hours
To become acquainted with the proper:
1. Use and care of hand tools.
2. Care of survey vehicle and equipment.
3. Care and handling of survey instruments.
a. Removing from and replacing in the box.
b. Carrying of instruments which have been mounted on a tripod.
c. Setting up of instruments safely.
4. Care of survey vehicles.
5. Safety practices.
a. First Aid and First Aid Kits.
b. Use of sharp tools.
c. Precautions for mountain work.
d. Precautions of street work.
e. Precautions around heavy equipment.
6. Use of hand signals.
7. Procedures for stake driving.
8. Marking and placing of guard stakes or witnesses.
9. Use of stationing systems.
10. Methods of referencing survey control.
11. Methods of note keeping and sketching.
12. Operation of rods and prism plumb poles.
13. Setting of bench marks and turning points.
14. Rules of good public relations and relations between colleagues.
Apprentice B - $18.89 per hour - 500 to 1,000 Hours
To become familiar with items 1-14 listed above.
Apprentice C - $21.59 per hour - 1,000 to 2,000 Hours
To become competent in items 1-14 above, to become acquainted with:
15. Basic Chaining Techniques.
16. Methods of keeping Chainman's peg notes.
17. Interpreting stationing and grade sheets from plans.
18. Identification of job required accuracy.
19. Setting monuments.
20. Setting up a level for taking elevations.
21. Operation of a level and level note keeping.
22. Use of total stations.
23. Use of GPS/RTK.
Apprentice D - $24.29 per hour - 2,000 to 3,000 Hours
To become competent in items 1-23 listed above.
Apprentice E - $26.61 per hour - 3,000 to 4,000 Hours
In addition to being competent in items 1-23, to become acquainted with:
24. Method of peg testing level.
25. Methods of plan reading.
26. Methods of preparing grades and cut sheets.
27. Methods of basic field calculations.
28. Staking procedures for various projects.
29. Methods and applications of staking curves.
30. Techniques for analyzing jobs for efficient procedures.
31. Topographic Surveying Procedures.
32. Basic Criteria and Procedures for Property Surveys.
Apprentice F - $28.92 per hour - 4,000 to 5,000 Hours
In addition to being competent in items 1-23, to become familiar with skills 24-32 listed above.
Apprentice G - $30.85 per hour - 5,000 to 6,000 Hours
To become competent in items 1-32 listed above.
Chainman - $38.56 per hour - 6,000 Hours
Complete Program as journeyman chainman.
Instrumentman - $39.14 per hour
Party Chief - $41.64 per hour
Certified Party Chief - $43.69 per hour
California Land Surveyor Party Chief - $44.39 per hour
